Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites & Spa
Oia Santorini Greece
on via Tripadvisor.com

A luxury spa resort on the edge of the town of Oia. This certainly ticked a lot of boxes. The staff at the restaurant and the bar by the pool were all always so warm and polite, they did make you feel very welcomed. The room was large and spacious and full of amentities. A nespresso machine in the little kitchen area, beautiful sets of cups, lovely walk-in shower and generally great big bathroom. And to top it all, my own private outdoor jacuzzi. I also tried the spa package while I was here and it was thoroughly enjoyable and most relaxing. Breakfast was buffet style. Not many places do buffet style breakfasts since covid. You are required to wear a mask in the buffet area, and they provided gloves for you to use if you wanted when handling the common utensils when choosing you food. I did not bother with the gloves, as the evidence now suggest transmission is mainly by respiratory droplets and not by fomites. The range of options was excellent, with selections of hot food, cold cuts, cereals, fruits, baked goods, yoghurts. Most anything you want for breakfast is here. Now the not so good part. As mentioned, it is on the fringes of Oia, and slightly downhill from it, so it’s a 10min uphill walk each time you want to get into town. It should be manageable for most people, but I guess there might be people with medical conditions where this is an issue. I’m not sure what happens in that case, maybe the hotel drives you into town. There was a welcome card on the table from the manager which I’m guessing os meant to feels personalised, but is probably standard for everyone. One of the sentences was something along the lines of “hopefully you blissful experience with us has already started”. Ironically, for me it was the opposite. Most of my stay had been perfect, except for right at the start. So I arrived early at the hotel, at 11am, and I was aware I shouldn’t be expecting a room at that time, after all check out time is 11am and the housekeeping team will need to make up the room. So I was perfectly happy for them to just store my luggage and for me to come back later for the room. I was told very helpfully that I could go enjoy myself at the bar by the main pool and someone would come and get me as soon as the room was ready. So off I went to the pool. Now, I’m not much of a sit by the pool type of person, so after 45 min, I decided I would just go into the town and did a bit of looking around. I returned around 2pm as I was too hot and just wanted to rest. I was hoping that I perhaps could have a room by now, but was very firmly though politely told by the front desk that check-in time was not until 3pm and I should really not expect to have a room before then. I think if I was told “I’m very sorry, but your room is still not ready”, I might have grudgingly accepted it, but to feel like I was being told off didn’t feel nice. This was a luxury resort at a premium price and part of that price was for you to feel special, and I definitely did not feel that way. As I went off to spend another hour by the pool, seeing other visitors who have arrived way after me being shown to their rooms while I still had to wait, it made me feel like I was less important as a customer than everyone else. You knew I was on site at 11am, could housekeeping not be alerted to prioritise my room, or was I indeed less welcome? Certainly it would not have taken more than 3 hours to service the room, nice as it was. You managed to get others room ready before 3pm, why not mine (I was eventually informed at a quarter pass 3 by a very friendly bellhop, that whenever I was ready I could go to my room. Whever I was ready was an hour ago) As I stated, the rest of the stay was actually very good, but having a sour note right at the start really rather spoilt the experience. Something for the management to think about, if you want to make all guests feel special.

Pros - The design of this hotel is very well thought out to give each suite privacy and good views. - There are plenty of pools v. the ratio of guests. - Easy walking distance to lots of restaurants. - Great sunset views. - At the moment you can book the whole-well equipped-gym to yourself for an hour slot. Cons - I think this hotel trades off the honeymoon market a little and isn’t quite 5 star. - whilst a good breakfast selection unlike all other 5 star hotels there are no chef stations, or cooked to order breakfast items so the eggs in particular are to be avoided. - We were kindly upgraded and moved to a new room after our original one looked onto the road and unlandscaped scrub land. - Avoid the spa. We asked for a list of treatments which took three attempts after repeatedly being asked ‘tell me about your needs and let us recommend a package’. It was even harder to gain the price list for treatments and was met with ‘is cost a factor for you?’. I felt like I was speaking to a dodgy car salesman. - The spa correctly advised on a bespoke massage specifically for pregnancy, asked me to complete a questionnaire on the day where I ticked I was pregnant. The therapist started massaging me face down on my stomach and I questioned this. They couldn’t speak English. The spa manager came and told me apologies but I should’ve told the therapist I was pregnant. - upon leaving they apologised again but told me I should’ve told the therapist despite me booking a pregnancy massage and ticking I was pregnant (I cannot speak Greek). Then they pushed myself and my husband to complete a questionnaire. When we flagged we were being asked to rate services we hadn’t had they asked us to continue anyway.

We stayed in Santo Maris for 3 nights in the sunset junior suite. The location of this hotel is perfect as there is a quick pedestrian path to Oia city centre- a 10 minute walk only! When we wanted to rent a car the hotel arranged this for us very smoothly and quickly with no issues at all. The staff were superb and made our stay all the more special. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in Greece; plenty of options. Only comment would be is the coffee is not served very hot so it got cold very easily. The room was very spacious, and the terrace was also nice and spacious. Although housekeeping could slightly be improved but the hotel did their best to rectify our issues which I always appreciate. Only reason I’m giving this 4 instead of 5 because the air conditioning for the size of the suite was insufficient so it got warm very easily. All in all, a wonderful stay, beautiful Greek hospitality and I certainly recommend this for anyone looking to stay in Oia!

I stayed there with my daughter in the last week of October. The suites were secluded, quiet and very well equipped. Staff were delightful. Nothing was too much trouble. All requests were dealt with promptly and with a smile. The outdoor pool was a bit chilly at this time of year and so we asked if it was possible to move to a suite with a hot tub. We were offered an upgrade immediately and helped to move within the hour. The breakfasts were excellent and the dinner we had on site was much better quality and less expensive than the top rated restaurant in Oia town. All Covid restrictions in place. Certainly well worth a visit. Dame Joan McVittie

The most beautiful hotel with the loveliest of staff! The staff really did make the hotel for us, they were so lovely and so friendly nothing was ever too much trouble. The hotel room was spotless with a lovely welcome gift for our honeymoon. Breakfast was lovely, great times and also lovely cocktails!

Staying for a week at the end of October probably did not give us the opportunity to appreciate all the resort had to offer. The weather was, to say the least, poor. A cold wind prevailed for most of the week providing very little opportunity to sunbathe, if that's your thing. Our suite was comfortable and spacious with a hot tub on the sun (??) terrace. I tried it once but found it extremely difficult to get in and out of,being nearly 70 and generally unfit. The sea view from the terrace was spoilt by an area of half finished landscaping. There were few guests it seemed and there was very little atmosphere in the bars. The breakfast was good with a large variety of the usual breakfast fayre. There wasn't an a la carte menu which would have been a bonus if you fancied a change. The breakfast staff, indeed ALL the staff were brilliant, charming and helpful and had obviously been trained to the highest standards. My only minor criticism at breakfast was that I was challenged, quite rightly,by a member of the team because I had forgotten to put my mask back on whilst walking to the self service. I apologised profusely, replaced my mask and thought no more about it. However some of the guests never wore masks in the breakfast room and didn't seem to be challenged. Perhaps I'm just a grumpy old man who needs to complain about something.

Very attentive and helpful staff at all times - couldn’t do enough for us. Rustic rooms in the cave house style but very comfortable and spacious. - The path and road to Oia was a bit steep and lung busting just before dinner! Main gripe was that all the hot food choices on the breakfast buffet were lukewarm at best and sometimes cold. The overhead lamp heaters were not sitting above the food so totally pointless. Toaster was like leaving your bread out in the sun even after 3 cycles! Coffee and tea also not hot enough most of the time. if they get this all sorted they are onto a winner.

Beautiful hotel, everything was so clean! Hotel staff were so lovely and made a special effort every day. Location was fantastic, short walk to the town. Felt so luxurious and a real special treat for us on our honeymoon. - N/A

We loved hotel Santorini Maris Oia!! Service is excellent, amenities top notch, great sunsets! Over the top breakfast( included ) - my friend thought the Cappuccinos were delicious here. There was a miscommunication about transport to hotel on hotels.com site, which indicated it was included. However, the hotel stated that free transportation from the airport was a service advertised by hotels.com and therefore needed to be arranged with hotels.com. We were unsure how to make such arrangements through hotels.com. Fantastic resort and would recommend !

Our 2 bedroom Villa with private pool was very comfortable with plenty of room, including a private gym, sauna, butler’s room, and 3.5 bathrooms. The sunsets from out villa or the hotel restaurant was amazing! Location is maybe a 7 minute walk to town, however the path is cobble stone so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Breakfast buffet and service were good, not excellent.

We stayed at the Santo Maris for five nights. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. On arrival we were greeted with cool towelettes and lemonade which was a lovely touch. We stayed in a Sunset Suite with hot tub and pool. We received a complimentary upgrade which was an absolutely amazing surprise. Suite: The outside area had a cold water private swimming pool and hot tub with sun loungers (towels provided), rocking chair, swing hammock and table and chairs. It had a sunset view so the patio area gets the mid-day/afternoon sun. The bed was firm. A Nespresso coffee machine, fridge etc are provided in the kitchenette area. Free bottled water is also supplied. The sun beds are great and are extremely comfortable! The suite has rustic shabby chic feel. We stayed on a B&B basis. The breakfast is generally to a very good standard with plenty of choice. Lunch is very good (very generous size portions) by the main pool. We had a couples massage which was also very good. It takes around 10 minutes to walk to the town and is definitely worth a visit. It is uphill all the way so bring sensible walking shoes. It’s a mixture of cobbled and smooth surfaces all around Oia. I loved the fact the hotel is away from the busy town and you can relax and unwind in a peaceful location. The town itself has a significant number of steps up and down if you wish to explore. If you come late season bring something warm for the evenings as it does get chilly. We averaged around 22-23 degrees during the day which was perfect for a mid October stay. The hotels Covid policies/procedures are very good and maintained. Which was great. We felt very safe during our stay. Credit to all the staff. We really enjoyed our stay and the staff are fantastic.

Location Clean Quiet - Nothing

Excellent hotel, not in the very centre of Oia (which means there is much more space and privacy) but very close walking distance. The location means the grounds of the hotel are gorgeous, the pool and restaurant are both stunning! Staff so friendly and helpful! It is a little chilly when windy but on the calm days it was hot enough for a bracing swim in the sun heated pool! The private hot tub made the sunset all the more special, along with the room upgrade for being on our honeymoon! Excellent all round and would highly recommend!

The hotel was in a fantastic location 5 minutes walking distance to the main streets of Oia. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Santorini, the hotel was in a fantastic location for watching the sunset without the over crowding in the village. - The jacuzzi on the balcony could have been warmer, wind protectors around would have helped a lot.

The room was terrific, breakfast was delicious and staff were terrific!

We had a very pleasant stay at Santo Maris. The staff were helpful and friendly. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but there was plenty of choice. The hotel is just a couple of minutes outside of the town and we were glad to be able to get away from the busy town at times. My only gripe is that the swimming pools were not heated, indeed they were icy cold and we couldn’t use them. We only saw one person swim during our entire stay. Other than that, a charming hotel. We had a hot tub in our sunbathing area which was lovely. Great outside bar for watching the sunsets!
